Nine Triple Eight - Panels
Contractor: Clark Builders
Location: Edmonton, AB
Masonry Contractor: Scorpio Masonry (Northern) Inc.
The Nine Triple Eight building in downtown Edmonton was originally clad in architectural precast concrete panels before its renovation. The renewal of the building included custom panels cut from Newton Brown and Kodiak Brown Granite. To ensure accuracy, a scan of the building was performed and this scan provided data points in a 3D digital environment. These data points were virtually traced over and provided a foundation of knowledge to pull from.
As a custom project, pieces were created in a digital environment and converted to a file that the CNC saw could read and cut from. To increase efficiency the pieces were also mapped onto raw slabs to find the best-fit cut, resulting in less waste.
Innovative engineering was put into practice for the project. Custom anchorage systems were used, including one which allows the users of the building to see the complete underside of hanging stone pieces. Click here to read the case study!
